While I don't regret taking that Philosophy 101 course, there is so much cultural context that is taken out of many of the philosophical traditions that might make it seem just weird or uninteresting to the average student. This is, at least to me, especially true for the first few days or week or two of the course when it comes to Greek and Roman philosophers, since much of it doesn't make sense until you start reading up on the culture's cosmology, religion/s, occult and astrology. And if I weren't feeling so under the weather now, I'd get in to more detail. But after reading through some of the first parts of Classical Astrology For Modern Living, I'm getting the impression it may be a very good thing to learn Ancient Greek (but which dialect?) before I get in to modern anyway...
